The Borneo Eco Film Festival is an annual event celebrating Borneo’s biocultural diversity through showcasing environmental films and nurturing local community filmmaking. The event will be held in Kompleks JKKN in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo Malaysia.

BEFF is about
(1) SUARA Community Filmmaking, and
(2) Environmental Cinema.

To 'educate' through new knowledge on ecological and cultural issues;
To 'expose' through environmental films that stimulate discussion;
To 'engage' storytellers through a platform for community filmmaking.

‘SUARA’ means ‘VOICE’. Giving a voice to local communities to use film to tell their own stories in their own words and images. This year-long project funds a small local community to make a series of films which will be screened at the next festival. We do this by providing workshops and talks during the festival, as well as follow-up training sessions after the festival at their respective communities.

A series of exclusive premieres of local / international environmental films will be selected by our film programmers with partnerships with other film festivals around the world. We look to expand the idea of environmental cinema from the traditional to the experimental.

Much gratitude to all our partners and supporters of our 2012 Borneo Eco Film Festival!
